HB0038 – 10th Amendment
This is the 10th Amendment bill that was a principal basis for Gino’s campaign in 2022. The bill allows the Speaker of the House and the Speaker of the Senate, acting jointly, to retain counsel at no cost to the state to vindicate Tennessee’s rights in federal court. It is the mechanism Gino plans to use to rein in out-of-control federal spending, which is a primary cause of inflation. This law went into effect on July 1, 2023.
HB0306 – Girls’ Athletics
This bill changed the rules for student participation in sports at private schools in Tennessee. Students may only participate in athletic activities organized by the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association in accordance with their biological sex at birth. Biological boys are
neither allowed to enter a girls’ locker room nor compete in girls’ athletic programs. These new rules went into effect on April 28, 2023.
HB1907 – Illegal Alien
This bill tightens up the definition of “illegal alien” in Title 50 of the Tennessee Code to ensure that taxpayer dollars may not be used to provide entitlement benefits to illegal aliens. The new law went into effect starting July 1, 2024.
